Vertical Louvres

The White Louvres Tower is a 5-story office building planned for construction in Manchester, UK. The design is distinguished by clarity of expression: an elegant, geometric glass volume encasing a stack of vertical louvres installed at varying intervals, creating a vibrant pattern and tempo. At ground level, the lobby, reception, and a café provide public spaces.

EXPLODED ENVELOPE

Sustainability

SWAPP presented several cost-effective designs that complied with the strict energy code, while also achieving high levels of sustainability.

Energy Modeling

Shading elements are fundamental to reducing cooling loads. Due to the project's complexity, the SWAPP algorithm used thousands of energy models to provide the best placement of the shading elements for the facade. Together with the architectural elements, the high efficient HVAC systems, and highly effective lighting design,  the project achieved 22% savings versus the standard baseline.

Moving Effects

Over the course of the day, as one moves around the building, the Louvre assembly produces a transformative effect dependent on the position of the sun and the pedestrian’s perspective, revealing patterns of use and activity within.
